13.08.2010 - Info Final Race 2010

The unhappiest event this year for the approximately 2.500 fanciers in our region was, without doubt, the appearance in Danube Delta, of avian influenza, apparently still “not old fashioned”.
As everybody expected, Ukraine, country which offers for the fanciers in our region the only flying route without mountains, closed its frontiers for import of birds from EU, including live pigeons, for a period of 90 days from the closure of last focus.
As all pigeon clubs, our one loft had to change plans and we decided to follow the route we used since 2007, in South, in Bulgaria and Greece, a flying route more difficult than Ukraine because of the Balkan Mountains and wind which blows from North (front) with preponderance.
A sample of this more difficult route was the last race, the Semifinal, when pigeons had to cross for the first time a mountainous chain, in the conditions of a day with extreme heat and humidity which probably made possible the appearance of fog in the direction.
Regarding Final race, this will take place in the vicinity of Peplos place – Greece, for a distance of 450 km, which compensates with brio the distance which we initially announce, 500 km from Ukraine.
It will surely be a tough race which will test at maximum the resources of pigeons as the weather will be canicular, with 36-37 degrees Celsius on the way, in the late afternoon, with front-side, side and back-side wind on the last part of route, which will blow with a medium speed of 10 km / h.
